#5 – Engage and support school management

The management of schools and kindergartens should be encouraged by policymakers at national and local level to implement national policies in their own schools and kindergartens. The management should also be encouraged to ensure that pupils are taught about traffic safety and mobility, and that the teachers are actually providing those lessons in practice. Schools and kindergartens should furthermore be encouraged to develop and implement traffic safety policies (see Principle #6).

Policymakers at all levels should provide the necessary support to managers in the planning, organisation, implementation, leadership and monitoring of traffic safety and mobility education and policies at schools.

BEST PRACTICE EXAMPLES

Principle #5 on engaging and supporting school management and Principle #6 on motivating schools to have a traffic safety and mobility policy are closely linked. Best practice examples are therefore provided for both principles combined.
